JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Database Analyst will perform a variety of duties generally in a supporting role to the Project Manager. The primary role of the Sr. DBA is to prepare and process case related data. Sr. DBAs are additionally called upon to serve in a consultative role as technical advisors. The position requires the Sr. Database Analyst to work independently and in cooperation with other Database Analysts while closely coordinating with the DBA Coordinator for prioritization purposes.
RESPONSIBILITIES (includes basic Database Analyst responsibilities):
- Receive data in a variety of formats and convert successfully for loading into the selected litigation application.
- Determine any existing problems with data files when performing conversion activity as well as strong data integrity testing skills to ensure quality of data loads.
- Communicate effectively when discussing database structure with others in Practice Support, vendors, and with legal teams or clients if requested by the DBA Coordinator, Project Managers or the Assistant Director of Practice Support.
- Handle multiple, simultaneous projects, achieving consistently high quality results.
- To create electronic document productions on CD or DVD, or to create paper productions using the proper litigation application systems.
- Scan small projects, print documents using Law, convert PDF files to tiffs, FTP data, and load transcripts into Ringtail.
- Assist Project Manager with coordination of projects with imaging, coding, printing and trial support vendors locally and remotely; assist in managing deadlines and quality assurance of the vendors’ work product.
- Effectively document technical procedures, quality control measures, analysis of data and specifications.
- Ability to understand, manage and manipulate the differences between disparate formats of data. (Sr. DBA).
- Knowledge of legal team requirements and workflow surrounding the litigation lifecycle (especially document review, document production, deposition and trial preparation), with the ability to effectively manage data to accommodate such needs. (Sr. DBA).
- Serve in a consultative manner with Project Managers and vendors (e.g. discussing load file specifications, quality control issues) (Sr. DBA).
- Utilize SQL tables when developing statistics or to run searches. (Sr. DBA).
- Mentor and instruct other DBAs with regard to departmental best practices (Sr. DBA).
- Distinguish between various options for producing reviewable images (e.g. static snapshots, Adobe PDFs) (Sr. DBA).
- Apply database principles using department best practices to propose and implement solutions when challenged with new (non-standard) scenarios. (Sr. DBA).
- Participate in the qualification and implementation of strategic technologies.
PRIMARY JOB & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sr. DBAs will have worked in their field for a minimum of two years as litigation DBAs (or will have equivalent experience).
- A strong working knowledge of MS Access and understanding of databases in general.
- Experience with manipulating document images in and between disparate formats.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL (relational database analysis and query building).
- Knowledge of litigation support software such as Ringtail, Summation, Concordance.
- Experience with electronic data discovery.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Bachelors Degree or higher.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Advanced Degree preferred, not required.
- Familiarity with trial support software such as TrialMax, Trial Director and Sanction.
